Annie Wood, Founder & President
Annie has received public recognition for both
her contribution to the Canadian publishing industry and her
commitment to the celebration and recognition of cultural
diversity in Canada.
As founding member and past publisher
of Kids Can Press, Canadas popular childrens book
publishing company, she contributed to the development of
the Canadian childrens publishing industry. Recently,
she created and produced the critically acclaimed exhibition,
FROM BABA'S HOPE CHEST: Macedonian Treasures in Canada,
at The Museum for Textiles, Toronto.
Annie has extensive experience as an art educator, and has
collaborated with galleries and museums to exhibit her students
work. Her vision targets Inventive Women Inc. products as
a vital resource to students and educators, which will enhance
curriculum guidelines and promote a greater understanding
of the many accomplishments of women inventors.
Annie was nominated for the I.H. Asper Broadcast Entrepreneur
of the Future Award, 1999, Administered by the Canadian Association
of Broadcasters. A profile of Annie appears in Technology
with Curves, Women Reshaping the Digital Landscape, by
Harper Collins. In recognition of her contributions to Canadian
society Annie has been included in Whos Who of Canadian
Women, and Canada's Whos Who.

James Allan,
Art Director/Illustrations
James joined IW in 2001. He has specialized in the design and multi-media field for over 7 years, working on a variety of projects ranging from educational to entertainment based applications. His skills range from illustration for both traditional and digital media, animation, the creation of dynamic web content (FLASH), 3D imagery, interface design, and CD-ROM or video design, client liason, production management and project development. A list of some of the clients he has worked with includes the Bank of Montreal, Bell Canada, CTV Network, EcentricArts, Empire of the Bay Inc., Eyemark Entertainment, McMicheal Canadian Art Gallery, MSN, The Weather Network, and YTV.
He has won numerous awards including: Advertising and Design Club of Canada, Winner, Best Interactive Design - Empire of the Bay. As well, he has recieved numerous nominations including: Design Exchange, Design Effectiveness Award, Finalist, Web Page Design - Empire of the Bay; The New York Festivals, Finalist, Interactive Media - Empire of the Bay.

MaryRose Ouellette, Junior Designer
MaryRose is a recent graduate of the Multimedia Design program at Durham College, and has specialized in print graphic design. She is very pleased to have the opportunity to be a part of the youth design team at Inventive Women.

John E. Vollmer,
Director of Research
John E. Vollmer is author of twenty-six
museum exhibition catalogues and numerous academic and popular
articles. His work on late imperial Chinese costume is a seminal
contribution to the field. He has been responsible for exhibitions
ranging from Chinese textiles, the fashion designs of Mariano
Fortuny, Inuit footwear and the products of East-West trade.
Educated at Columbia University, Harvard and the University
of Toronto, Vollmer has held curatorial appointments at the
Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto, and at the Glenbow Museum in
Calgary. He served as director at the Kent State University
Museum, Kent, Ohio and was the founding executive director
of the Design Exchange in Toronto. Since 1991 Vollmer has
worked as a consultant. Vollmer Cultural Partnerships Inc.
specializes in strategic planning and practical program development
for not-for-profit, public and private sector clients in education,
arts and culture in the United States, Canada and Asia.

Andrew Allan,
Flash
Andrew is our "game guy". He
always has wonderful ideas for interactive educational games
that he then builds with skill and talent. One of his strengths
is logic which as you know, is essential to a game
running well.

Ron Wood, Director
of Photography
Ron's 25 years of extensive photographic
experience contributes a unique vision in the creation of
Inventive Women Inc.'s products. As lead photographer, Ron
provides us with striking imagery which is compelling and
graphic. His photographs have been the foundation for magazine
articles, archives, posters, catalogues and brochures, as
well as treasured family memories. Ron's client list includes
Global Television Network, Alliance/Atlantis Television, McMichael
Canadian Art Collection, Canadian Living Magazine and the
Textile Museum of Canada.

Dick Rampen,
3D design, Exhibitions
Dick has worjked as an industrial and
environmeental designer for close to twenty years. His most
recent museum project was The Pyramid Makers, for the Royal
Ontarion Museum. For the exhibbition, Dick recreated an ancient
Egyptian town that had disstinct environments for visitor
education opportunities.

Johanna Skelly,
Contributing Writer/Editor
Johanna has extensive background in the
publishing industry. As a Promotions Manager, she was responsible
for planning and coordinating authors, as well as producing
numerous print catalogues and brochures. Her writing and editing
skills allow her to interpret the rich ideas of inventors
into language which is direct and accessible.

Doreen Dotto,
Director of Content
Doreens expertise as a visual artist,
arts administrator, arts educator and mother of two young
boys gives her a unique vision in creating an effective and
stimulating site for both young children and adults. Past
accomplishments include teaching visual art to K-13 and special
needs classes for various school boards throughout the GTA
, grants officer to visual artists, choreographers and literature
at the Toronto Arts Council (including the facilitation and
launch of new granting programs to independent artists for
the City of Toronto), Project manager for Canadian Artists
Representation Ontario (CARO), Ontario College of Art, lecturer
and facilitator for Arts Business seminars and founder and
team leader of the Art a la Carte program offered through
Norway Public School, Toronto. Doreen has exhibited her artworks
throughout Canada.

Fani Evagelou,
Assistant to the President
Fani is currently pursuing her Bachelor
of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering. She considers
her experiences researching for Inventive Women as some of
the most rewarding and enjoyable of her life. Fani supplied
the text for her profile. She writes, "It's a little
hoky, but it's true, and the truth is always easier to think
of."

Rebecca Burton,
Research
Rebecca is a Ph.D. candidate specializing
in Canadian and Feminist theatre history at the University
of Toronto's Graduate Drama Centre. Bringing her academic
skills to Inventive Women Inc., Rebecca worked as a researcher
and Research Coordinator, and helped to compile information
on women inventors from all across Canada.

Elrethe van
Rooyen, Research
Elrethe immigrated to Canada in 1999.
She brings many years of teaching and research experience
to Inventive Women Inc. Elrethe taught high school history,
biology, geography, and was a much-loved mentor and teacher
to her students. As researcher, compiler and artist, she was
instrumental in the creation of the maps for South African
Eastern Frontier. A four-year project, she is very proud
of her contribution to South African history and geography.
For 13 years she was assistant in the history dept at the
University of Stellenbosch, where she administered the periodical,
History Teaching.

Plum Johnson,
Contributing Writer/Editor
Plum has had a stellar career in publishing.
Publisher of Kids Toronto newspaper until 1993, and
president of KidsCanada Publishing Corp. from 1983 until 1994,
she sold the profitable company to Torstar Ltd., which also
owns the Toronto Star newspaper. Kids Toronto is now
run as City Parent. Kids Toronto won many international
awards including a Toronto Marketing Award, 1986, and Plum
won first place for her prowess in her regular monthly column
from Medhill School of Journalism and Parenting Publications
of America. In 1990, she was given the Toronto Sun Newspaper
Women on the Move award in recognition of her outstanding
achievement in business.

Isis Caulder,
Contributing Writer
Isis Caulder is a Toronto-based patent
lawyer and patent agent with a Masters degree in Electrical
Engineering. Isis specializes in the protection of various
types of technology from small mechanical devices to complex
software/hardware systems at the firm Beresk in & Parr.

Ingrid Mida,
Contributing Writer
Ingrid Masak Mida was an executive with
a major Toronto daily newspaper before she left power and
perks on the table to stay home with her two young sons. Presently,
she is working as a freelance writer and editor, but only
during the hours of the school day or after bedtime.

Joan VanDuzer,
Contributing Writer
Joan graduated from Queen's in 1961 with
a B.A. in General Arts, and went on to receive an M.Ed in
Special Education from OISE and a Journalism diploma from
Ryerson University. She currently runs a small private foundation
which is especially interested in international community
development through the arts and surgical education. Joan
believes that creativity in all its guises is the life blood
of communities and is very pleased to be even a small part
of the Inventive Women network.

Jan Borkowski
Medina, Graphics
Jan is a graduate of West Toronto Collegiate,
and currently enrolled in the Art Fundamentals program at
the Ontario College of Art & Design. Jan's expertise with
Adobe Illustrator vector-graphics was a big help in the creation
of the Inventive Women website.

Michael Wood,
Web Master
Michael is a recent graduate from Sheridan
College's three year Media Arts program. Experienced in a
number of computer graphics applications as well as web design,
Michaels skills and style are an important element at
Inventive Women.

Danny Lee, Video
Production
Danny is currently studying the Technical
Aspect of Digital Media at Seneca at York University. His
expertise in Flash, Adobe Premiere, and Photoshop make him
a valuable member of the Inventive Women team.
