Who are
you?
Thanks for asking. This site was produced by Inventive Women (soon to be Circle Media), a multi-media company with a focus on innovation. Even though everyone knows us as the creators of www.inventivewomen.com, we're actually much more than that. Since multi means many, we use a variety of media, from traditional to innovative new media, to help our clients convey their messages or shape their projects. As well, we specialize in content development. What that means is that we take a client's concept and develop the story through text, images, and a variety of technologies. And we also develop and produce our own cultural properties such as this website, and museum exhibitions such as From Baba's Hope Chest:
Macedonian Treasures in Canada.
Who started the company?
That would be Annie Wood. She's the company's
president. In 1998, she saw that there was virtually no material
available to students and the general public on women and
technology. So, she decided to create some. Starting up a
company was old hat to Annie. After all, she was one of the
founders of Kids Can Press, which today is Canada's leading
children's book publisher (if you have kids, I bet you've
read lots of Kids Can Press books). Annie's ability to "tell
the story" is at the heart of the company, and at the heart
of all projects.
Do only women work there?
It would be boring if that was the case.
Guys work at Inventive Women Inc. too. So when you call the
office, don't be surprised when a baritone voice answers the
phone!
Where can I find you?
Our office is located in a restored tin
factory in the heart of downtown Toronto's art and new media
district. Sometimes we hold our meetings in the building's
rooftop garden. And, if we need a dose of creativity, we pop
into one of the building's half-dozen art galleries. Why don't
you come and see us some time?
